The name 'Tadoba' is the name of the God "Tadoba" or "Taru", praised by the tribal people who live in the dense forests of the Tadoba and Andhari region, while the Andhari River that meanders through the forest gives the 'Andhari' name.

Location
It is the pristine and unique eco-system situated in the Chandrapur district of the Maharashtra State of India. The Reserve contains some of the best of forest tracks and endowed with rich biodiversity. It is famous for its natural heritage. Tadoba-andhari Tiger Reserve is the second Tiger Reserve in the State.
Geographical Information
The largest national park in Maharastra, Tadoba Andheri Reserve brings the in total area of 625.4 sq km (241.5 sq m) that also includes the Tadoba National Park which was being further established with an area of 116.55 sq kms and Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary created in 1986 with an area of 508.85 square kilometres (196.47 sq m). The reserve also brings 32.51 sq kms of protected forested area and 14.93 square kilometers (5.76 sq mi) 'other areas'.
The reserve can be found amidst the dense forested hills to form the northern and western boundary with the elevated ranges from 200 m (660 ft) to350 m (1,150 ft). To the southwest is the 120 ha (300 acres) Tadoba Lake which acts as a buffer between the park's forest and the extensive farmland which extends up to Irai water reservoir. The Tadoba Lake is a perennial water source which offers good habitat for Muggar crocodiles to thrive. Other wetland areas within the reserve include the Kolsa Lake and Andhari River.
Flora and Fauna
Tadoba National Park is a large park covered with lush, green forestland at a distance of 45 km from Chandrapur at Chimur Hills and the Andhari sanctuary covers Moharli and Kolsa ranges. Thick forests are relieved by smooth meadows and deep valleys as the terrain slopes from north to south. Cliffs, talus and caves provide salubrious shelter for several animals. The two forested rectangles are formed of Tadoba and Andhari range. The presence of Tadoba Lake at the park brings perfect biological diversity with great foliages.
Tigers, leopards, gaurs, nilgais, sambars and chitals are the common species in this park. Besides, leopard cat, Indian wild dog, sloth bear, hyena, wild boar, spotted deer, barking deer, blue bull, four-horned antelope, Indian pangolin and porcupine are the wild animals of this park.
Best Time to Visit
February to May is the perfect timings to visit this park (national reserve). Interestingly, around 90,000 people visit the park annually.
